An Alumnus of prestigious Indian institute of Technology Mumbai, Mr Prashant K Banerjee has been working to further sustainable mobility for more than 3 decades. Currently he is working as the Executive Director at Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). An engineering veteran, having rich association with IIT Mumbai, Toyota Motors, Daewoo, and Tata Motors, has contributed to auto industry in different management capacities including multiple vehicle platform development, R&D, localisation, advance technologies, certification, testing, regulations, standards and policy formulation. Since 2003, he has been representing India regularly in United Nations and is currently Chair of the India GRSG, Group on Vehicular Safety in UNECE WP29.
Recognizing his contribution towards promoting sustainable mobility, he has been awarded with the Order of Rio Branco by Govt of Brazil for his distinguished meritorious service and civic virtues, stimulating the practice of actions and deeds worthy of honorable mention.
He has to his credit more than 20 research papers on utilization of cleaner and sustainable fuels in national & international forums with Young Scientist Award by Ministry of Renewable Energy Government of India in 1991.
In his capacity as Executive Director in Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, he has been nominated by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to be the Convener of National Committee of Hydrogen Fueled Mobility Application.
He is the lead of Indian Auto Industry in coordinating international harmonization of standards & regulations, technology adoption, with regular exchange of information among other country associations viz. IMMA, ACEM, FAMI, OICA, ACEA, JAMA, VDA, SMMT, Alliance including driving initiatives on road safety, environmental sustainability and energy security.
He is also governing council member of apex bodies of various institutions namely Society of Fuels & Petroleum Laboratory (SFPL), Automotive Industry Standards Committee (AISC), ARAI, Executive Body of Hydrogen Association of India, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) India, MoRTH Committee on Circular Economy for End-of-Life Vehicles, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) committees on Transport Engineering Division Council (TEDC), ETD, PCD and Fellow of IMechE London UK.
